APC Faults PDP Chair, Turaki For Urging Foreign “Invasion” Of Nigeria

ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denounced what it describes as a dangerous and irresponsible call for foreign intervention in Nigeria by the newly declared Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki.
Turaki, while briefing journalists on the deepening crisis within the PDP, urged foreign governments to intervene in Nigeria to halt what he alleged to be a “Christian genocide” and to safeguard the nation’s democracy. The APC described the comment as reckless, unpatriotic and a threat to national stability.
APC, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticised Turaki’s conduct, noting that he had only been declared chairman by a faction of the PDP a mere 72 hours earlier. Morka said Turaki “looked and sounded desperate, at his wit’s end, confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking in the stamina and capacity to manage his party’s crisis.”
According to the APC, Nigerians had expected Turaki to immediately embark on efforts to reconcile the warring blocs within the PDP and begin a process of healing and internal dialogue. Instead, the party noted, his very first major action was to call for a foreign invasion as a remedy to what it described as the PDP’s “self-inflicted” turmoil. The APC said such a stance was both shameless and a clear danger to the nation’s sovereignty.
The statement further recalled that during the PDP’s 16 years in power, despite what it called the party’s “ruthless subversion of opposition parties,” no calls were made for foreign intervention in internal political disputes. It argued that Turaki’s comments amounted to an admission of the PDP’s inability to manage its internal contradictions and, effectively, a confirmation of its collapse.
The APC expressed confidence that the international community would disregard what it labelled a disgraceful and unpatriotic proposition by the PDP, describing it as a diversion from the party’s implosion and its failure to uphold internal democracy. It said Turaki’s outburst exposed the heightened desperation within opposition ranks and how far some leaders were willing to go to advance their political ambitions.
The ruling party urged Nigerians to continue supporting the APC and the leadership of President Bola Tinubu as the administration pursues its agenda of national development and prosperity.
