ABUJA  –   THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has secured the suspension of several .ng domain names accused of running large-scale online piracy operations involving Nigerian and foreign music.

The action followed a request by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA), the body responsible for .ng domain management.

The affected websites: val9ja.com.ng, tunesloaded.com.ng, voxnaija.com.ng, music.360media.com.ng, medianub.com.ng, naijalevels.com.ng and mp3juice.com.ng — were taken offline through their registrars after they were found to be distributing unlicensed music and audiovisual works.

According to the NCC’s Special Taskforce against Online Piracy (STOP), the sites had been illegally sharing copyrighted content, depriving creators and investors of revenue and undermining legitimate digital platforms.

The commission said the intervention is part of its ongoing enforcement drive under the Copyright Act 2022, which empowers it to investigate and curb online copyright violations across websites, streaming platforms and digital distribution channels.

Director-General of NCC, Dr. John Asein, said the suspension of the domains sends a strong message that Nigeria will not tolerate digital piracy. He commended NiRA and the registrars involved, assuring rights holders that the NCC is working with national and international partners to strengthen anti-piracy efforts.

He urged the public to report suspicious websites through stop.copyright.gov.ng, adding that the Commission remains fully prepared to take action against all copyright offenders to protect Nigeria’s creative economy.

“The Nigerian Copyright Commission remains vigilant and fully prepared to take decisive action against all forms of copyright infringement in order to safeguard Nigeria’s creative space and its digital future,” Asein said.
