IBADAN  –   A former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and ex-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Oyo Central, Chief Bisi Ilaka, has resigned his membership of the PDP.

Ilaka, a UK-trained lawyer and prominent political figure in Oyo State, confirmed his decision in Ibadan on Thursday while speaking with journalists.

The Ladilu of Oyo Kingdom said his resignation followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and other key stakeholders across the state.

While describing the decision as difficult, Ilaka noted that it became necessary in view of his political convictions and future aspirations.
“Yes, I’m resigning my membership from the PDP tomorrow,” he stated.

Ilaka served as Chief of Staff to Governor Makinde during the governor’s first term and was the PDP senatorial candidate for Oyo Central in the 2023 general election.

Until his resignation, he remained one of the influential voices within the party in Oyo State.

Speaking on his next political move, Ilaka confirmed his readiness to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State.

He described the ADC as a platform that aligns with his vision for inclusive governance and grassroots development, adding that he intends to continue his political journey under the party’s banner.

Ilaka’s defection is expected to generate fresh political realignments within Oyo State as preparations gradually begin toward the next electoral cycle.
