Amuludun FM Backs ỌYÀSI’s 2025 World Headdress Celebration

IBADAN – THE management of Ibadan-based broadcasting station, Amuludun 99.1FM, has pledged its full support for the 2025 World Headdress Celebration organised by the Ọmọ Yorùbá Àtàtà Socio-cultural Initiative (ỌYÀSI).
The pledge was made during a courtesy visit by the leadership of ỌYÀSI, led by its Chairman, Mr Ọlawale Ajao, to the station at Moniya, Ibadan, on Tuesday.
Mr Ajao used the opportunity to solicit the cooperation and media support of Amuludun FM for the second edition of the annual cultural event.
According to him, the World Headdress Celebration is scheduled to hold by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Single Tennis Court, Lékan Sàlámì Sports Complex, Adámásingbà, Ìbàdàn.
Mr Ajao disclosed that highlights of this year’s celebration include a lecture to be delivered by renowned traditional and cultural icons such as the Araba of Osogboland, Araba Ifayẹmi Ẹlẹbuibọn; the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi; and prolific author, Elder Debo Awe.
He added that the event would also feature a gèlè-tying competition, with prizes for the top three participants, as well as awards for individuals with the most attractive caps and headgear, all aimed at promoting Yoruba cultural identity and heritage.
Receiving the delegation, the General Manager of Amuludun 99.1FM, Moniya, Ibadan, Mrs Tolulope Onafowokan, expressed the station’s commitment to supporting the initiative.
She recounted her journey in broadcasting, noting that although she began her career presenting English programmes, her passion for the promotion of the Yorùbá language inspired her transition to Yorùbá programme presentation.
Mrs Onafowokan said the decision had not only been fulfilling but had also opened greater opportunities for her professionally.
Describing Amuludun FM as a pace-setter, she noted that the station remains the first and only radio station broadcasting purely in the Yoruba language while maintaining high professional standards.
She assured ỌYÀSI of the station’s readiness to partner with the organisation to ensure the success of the 2025 World Headdress Celebration.
In his remarks, a senior officer in the News and Current Affairs Department of Amuludun FM, Mr Funso Aderibigbe, lamented what he described as the gradual abandonment of indigenous culture by the Yoruba people in favour of foreign influences. He warned that this trend had led to the erosion of core values, including respect for elders.
Members of the Amuludun FM management team present at the meeting included Mr Funso Aderibigbe of News and Current Affairs Department, Mrs Theresa Jimoh (Human Resources), Mr Ajibade Odedokun (Investment), Mr Otunuga (Marketing), and Mrs Dada (Auditing).
