Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Firearms In Oyo

IBADAN – THE Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers and the recovery of firearms in a coordinated security operation across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the Command’s sustained fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-driven operations carried out in collaboration with non-state security outfits.
One of the suspects, Aliu Umaru, 22, of Komu Village, was arrested after being declared wanted in connection with the kidnapping of Huseinat Abubakar, 25, of Gelede Camp via Komu.
DSP Olayinka stated that Umaru confessed to the crime during interrogation and subsequently led operatives to the arrest of two other alleged members of the kidnapping syndicate — Gure Wadi, 60, and Ibrahim Yobo, 35, both residents of Komu Village.
A search conducted at the residence of one of the suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun and a dane gun, which police alleged were used in carrying out the kidnapping.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Femi Haruna, directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and ensure their diligent prosecution.
He commended the professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness of the officers involved in the operation.
Haruna also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and strategic support, which he said had enhanced operational efficiency within the Command.
The police commissioner further lauded members of the public and non-state actors for providing credible and timely information that contributed to the success of the operation.
The Command said investigations were ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects, after which all those involved would be charged to court.
It reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged continued cooperation through the provision of useful information to security agencies.
