APC’s Ukachukwu , Deputy Allege Vote Buying By APGA

Awka – CANDIDATE of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the on going governorship election in Anambra state, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has alleged that the rival All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, is carrying out “massive vote buying” all over the state.
Ukachukwu had voted at about 11:46 am at Umudiala hall , PU 011, Osumenyi Ward 2, Nnewi South Council Area of Anambra State.
Speaking to journalists immediately after casting his ballot, the APC candidate said he had received the news across Anambra State ithat “APGA is buying votes.”
He absolved APC of similar malpractices.
He however expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) saying they had been doing a good job.
“Yes, I have confidence in the INEC. They are doing a good job”, he said.
Ukachukwu, who was flanked by his wife, expressed optimism that despite the “massive vote buying he would win the election because the people are behind him.
He said the massive voter turnout was aimed at making a statement as the people were tired of the governor who, according to him , had failed to deliver since becoming the state governor.
Similarly,his Deputy, Senator (Mrs) Uche Ekwunife has decried the massive vote buying by APGA agents all over the state describing it as saddening.
She said that despite the warnings by both the INEC and the Police against vote buying, the incumbent Governor and APGA candidate, Prof Charles Soludo allegedly deployed the sum of N5, Million to each polling unit in the state for that purpose.
She spoke shortly after voting at about 11.34am at Polling unit 001,Nri. Anaocha council area of the state.
The APC deputy governorship candidate expressed concern that the APGA people were monetarily inducing the electorate to vote against their conscience.
She however commended the large voter turnout as a sign that the people were tired about the bad governance in the state and poised to vote it out.
Voting in other areas visited by Daily Independent showed that the exercise had been peaceful so far.
At polling units 003 and 015 , Ebe Anuagu hall. Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka council area of the state, the Presiding Officers ,Latona Peter and Faith Okoye respectively said that voting had been hitch free and that they had not encountered any major challenges as at 12.30 pm.
