Communities, School Committees Laud Oluyole LG Chairman, Lawmaker Over New Classrooms

IBADAN — STAKEHOLDERS in the education sector, including head teachers and School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), chairmen from Olokonla Oke Community, have commended the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Akeem Olatunji, and a lawmaker representing Oluyole State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Waheed Akintayo, for their efforts in improving school infrastructure.
The stakeholders gave the commendation during a thank-you visit to the council secretariat in Idi Ayunre where they expressed appreciation for the construction and renovation of classroom blocks, as well as the provision of boreholes and other learning facilities across five public schools in the area.
Schools that benefited from the projects include St. James Basic School, Faruku; Community Basic School, Ajofeebo; Awawu Balogun Community Basic School, Ago; Olomi Community Basic School II, Olomi; and Union of Ratibi, Olokonla.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Headmaster of Olomi Community Basic School II, Mr. Olaleye Kayode, described the intervention as impactful, noting that it has significantly improved the teaching and learning environment.
According to him, the gesture aligns with the long-standing commitment of Olatunji to educational development, even before assuming office as council chairman.
“He has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of our schools. Even before becoming chairman, he contributed to improving infrastructure, and now in office, he has sustained and expanded those efforts,” he said.
Also speaking, the Headmistress of Community Basic School, Ajofeebo, Mrs. Fasola A.A., lauded the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for regular payment of teachers’ salaries, describing it as a morale booster for education workers across the state.
She noted that the newly constructed classrooms have helped to address overcrowding and inadequate facilities in public schools within the local government.
“With these new buildings and improvements, the learning environment has become more conducive, and this will positively impact academic performance,” she said.
Earlier, the Chairman of Olokonla Oke Community, Mr. Asimiyu Muideen, alongside other community leaders, also commended the council chairman and the lawmaker, describing the projects as timely and beneficial, particularly for underserved communities.
In his response, Olatunji expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising education as a foundation for sustainable development, in line with the vision of the state government.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration between government, community leaders, and school stakeholders in ensuring that public schools meet acceptable standards at the grassroots level.
The event was attended by the Leader of the Oluyole Legislative House, Hon. Taofeek Azeez; the Education Secretary of Oluyole Local Government, Comrade Ganiyu Waheed; and other top officials of the council.
