Daily Independent Reporter, Raji Adebayo Emerges Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, As Seye Ojo Resigns

Raji Adebayo has emerged the chairman of Oyo state Correspondents’ Chapel.

Naijanewshub.com.ng reports that Raji Adebayo of the Daily Independent Newspaper has emerged Chairman of Oyo state Correspondents’ Chapel wing of the state Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ).

Raji Adebayo who contested against Comrade Seye Ojo of the Sun Newspaper during the Correspondents’ Chapel elections in November 2021 was unanimously voted for as the new chairman of the chapel by members and leaders of the state correspondents following resignation letter tendered by Seye Ojo who signified his interest to run for the post of Oyo NUJ Vice Chairman in the forthcoming election.

While charging the new chairman, Oyo state NUJ chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola urged Raji Adebayo to be magnanimous in victory, charging him to forget the past and embrace open door policy.

Babalola said, Raji Adebayo last year contested against Seye Ojo and lost, but we I really salute his sportsmanship spirit because today Raji is now the pride of the leaders of the Correspondents’ Chapel, I’m so happy that we are now having arrays of good and qualified journalists who are now the chairmen of chapels in the state and I will be glad to handle the mantle the leadership of the union to any of them when it is time.”

“Please put the past behind you, God Almighty Has the final say in all our ways and this development is prove to that.” So I want you to use your connections to move this chapel to a greater and enviable height.”

“God Almighty has put there please sustain the good standard of the chapel, operate with an open door leadership, spend your money for the development of the chapel, do all within your power to bring in good people that will raise the status of the chapel, I’m so happy for you and I pray that God should grant you sound health and wisdom that requires to take this honourable chapel to an enviable height.” Babalola said.

In his acceptance speech, Raji Adebayo promised to use all within his power move the chapels forward.

He said, “I sincerely thank you all for without your supports I cannot be where I am today, I’m using this opportunity to inform you all that I will work on my manifestos I made during the electioneering process to move our dear chapel forward to an enviable height.”

“Like I promised, I will facilitate financial upliftment for our chapel, and welfare of our members will be my priority, very soon I will facilitate training for some members of our chapel and for me to achieve all these among others, I need your support, for there is no leader without followers.” Raji said.

Comrade Seye Ojo in his contributions said, “I am grateful to Almighty God for the opportunity He gave me to be the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Oyo State Council from October 2021 to October 2022.”

“The mandate was to last for three years. But I had a higher calling to contest for the vice chairmanship position for the whole of NUJ in the state. So, I had to resign to pick up the nomination form. So, my exit gave room to Comrade Raji Adebayo to become the new chairman of the chapel. So, I congratulate him and wish him well in the onerous task of moving the Correspondents’ Chapel forward.” Seye said.

Raji Adebayo was voted for by all the members present during the Congress which included the National leader of the Union, Comrade Bayo Akamo, Mrs. Yinka Bode Are, former chairmen of the chapel, Comrade Sola Adeyemo, Comrade Kemi Olaitan, the state Treasurer, Comrade Abass Akeem, state Secretary Sola Oladapo.

Members of the executive of the chapel in attendance are the vice chairman who acted as the chairman of chapel during the Congress, Comrade Jeremiah Oke, Comrade Dare Adeogundiran Secretary, Stella Obi Treasurer.

Other members of the correspondents chapel in attendance are Mr. Goke Oguntoye zonal director of news at News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Sheu Suliamon reporter of the News Agency of Nigeria, Vice Chairman of Oyo Sports Writers Association of Nigerian, Comrade Gbenga Olugbodi of the Sun Newspaper, Kazeem Awojoodu of Daily Independent, Joseph Okwofu Publisher of the Examiner.ng, among others.

Motion for adoption of comrade Raji Adebayo as chairman of the chapel was raised by Mr. Kunle Bakare and was seconded by Mr. Ibrahim Subair, while secretary of NUJ performed the swearing-in exercise for the new chairman after the vote.
