DSS Breaks Bandits’ Ammunition Chain, Seizes 200 Rounds, Arrests Suspect

KANO —- OPERATIVES of the Department of State Services (DSS) have disrupted a cross-border ammunition supply chain linked to bandits, arresting a 25-year-old suspect and recovering 200 rounds of ammunition in Kano.
The suspect, identified as Nafisa Usman, was apprehended at a major motor park in the city while allegedly attempting to move the ammunition for onward delivery to bandits operating in Kankara, Katsina State.
According to security sources, the arrest followed actionable intelligence that led operatives to intercept the suspect during a covert operation. “This is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle logistics networks fueling banditry,” a source said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the ammunition was sourced from Lafia in Nasarawa State and transported to Kano for redistribution.
The suspect reportedly confessed that the consignment was meant for delivery to bandits in the Kankara forest, adding that she had been involved in the trade for about two months.
“She admitted receiving supplies from a contact identified as ‘Teso,’ who allegedly operates with a soldier in Lafia,” the source disclosed.
Usman further alleged that she delivered ammunition to a bandit leader known as Mallam Haruna, said to be active in the forest, as well as other individuals identified as Buba and Abu.
According to her statement, she was introduced into the network by a Kano-based livestock trader, Sulaiman, who connected her with buyers.
“She claimed transactions worth about ₦5 million had been carried out within the period,” the source added.
The suspect expressed regret over her involvement, saying she had now been exposed and was willing to cooperate with investigators.
Security officials say efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate and dismantle the broader network supplying arms to criminal groups.
