Electronics Transmission: House Action Betrays Public Trust- PDP

ABUJA   —  THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the position of the House of Representatives as a clear betrayal of public trust.

Recall that the House had earlier favour electronic transmission of election results as against the Senate, which supported both manual and electronic.

But the House on Tuesday made a u-turn and adopted a provision accommodating both manual and electronic transmission of results — reversing what opposition members described as the earlier push to make electronic transmission the sole method.

Reacting to this development, the PDP, in a statement on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said, “this is a clear betrayal of public trust. It is unfortunate that the House of Representatives abandoned the pro-people position they took and adopted the anti-people version of the Senate.

“The legislators are delegates of power and should at all times act in the interest of the delegator of power. They are not in parliament to legislate for themselves but to legislate for the people.

“The proviso is a catalyst for deepened election opacity and must be opposed by all lovers of democracy.”
