Fear Spreads in Rivers LGA As Gunmen Kill Truck Driver

PORT HARCOURT  —   RESIDENTS of Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State have been gripped by fear following the gruesome killing of a timber truck driver whose identity had yet to be confirmed as of press time.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night at about 10:00 p.m. along the Abua–Ahoada East Road.

Although details surrounding the attack remain unclear, it was gathered that the truck conveying timber was heading to Port Harcourt when the driver was reportedly accosted by suspected gunmen and shot dead.

Eyewitnesses and cyclists who arrived at the scene were seen in a viral video circulating on social media expressing shock and fear over the development.

In the footage, a man believed to be familiar with the victim identified the deceased as his worker, insisting that the driver was innocent.

Speaking in the video, the man lamented, “Things are really happening in Ahoada East. See my boy who carried wood to go and offload in Port Harcourt; Ekpeye boys shot him around 10 p.m. last night.

“Tell me what this boy did to them that they had to shoot and kill him.”

The incident has further heightened tension among residents of the area, many of whom are calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

As of the time of filing this report, the State Police Command had yet to released any official statement on the incident.
