BIRNIN KEBBI – FORMER National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hajiya Mariya Waziri, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Waziri was received by the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Monday. She defected alongside the Kebbi State PDP Women Leader and other state executives of the party.
Speaking before a large crowd of women supporters, Hajiya Mariya Waziri said she decided to join the APC because of what she described as the impressive developmental projects being executed by Governor Idris across the state.
“I have been in the PDP for 20 years without joining any other party. But my decision to join the APC today shows that I am confident in what I am seeing in terms of development in Kebbi State,” she said.
According to her, she had toured several parts of the state and was satisfied with the pace of development.
“I have gone round the state and I am impressed with the projects. I will work hard to ensure the victory of Governor Nasir Idris in 2027,” she added.
In his response, Governor Nasir Idris described Mariya Waziri as a committed and development-driven leader who has consistently supported women in the state.
The governor noted that he has a long-standing family relationship with the former PDP women leader and recalled that, during her time in office, she regularly assisted women, especially whenever she returned from Abuja to Kebbi State.
He assured her of equal treatment within the APC, just like any other member of the party, and called on her to mobilise women supporters across the state to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his forthcoming state visit to Kebbi.
