Fuel Crisis: Makinde Announces N10,000 Transport Allowance For Oyo Civil Servants

IBADAN —- GOVERNOR Seyi Makinde has approved a N10,000 monthly transportation allowance for civil servants in Oyo State as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
The governor made the announcement on Monday during the supervision of the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub.
According to Makinde, the allowance, which will run for an initial period of three months, is aimed at easing the burden of increased transportation costs on workers and enhancing productivity across ministries, departments and agencies.
“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden,” the governor said.
He explained that the initiative forms part of the state government’s broader response to prevailing economic challenges under its SAfER framework, which is designed to provide sustainable relief to residents.
The programme was organised in partnership with First City Monument Bank and Mastercard, and also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP).
Makinde noted that the intervention aligns with his administration’s commitment to implementing worker-friendly policies while maintaining efficient service delivery across the state.
Stakeholders at the event commended the government for what they described as a timely intervention, noting that the transport allowance would provide immediate relief to civil servants grappling with inflationary pressures.
The N10,000 transport support is expected to take effect from March, with details of disbursement to be communicated through appropriate government channels.
