Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has commissioned the completed 8.2km dualized Agodi-Gate-Old Ife Road-Alakia Adegbayi Road and Onipepeye underpass in Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo state.
The event which held at Gate Roundabout, Agodi-Gate, Ibadan, on Thursday January 25 had some dignitaries including former governors of south west states such Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and Peoples Democratic Board of Trustee led by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.
In his address, Governor Makinde said the completion of the road project was a further testament to the commitment of his administration towards expanding the Oyo state economy through road projects.
In his words, “the expansion of our economy is very important to sustainable development which was what I preached when I cried out to seek your mandate for my second tenure.”
“We produced a roadmap for sustainable development of Oyo state 2023–2027 and if you had not voted for me, you wouldn’t be sure if the next government was going to do this project, so this is one of the benefits of voting for me during the March 2023 governorship election.”
“As we continue to attract large and medium businesses into Oyo state, the pressure on our infrastructure increases and then there’s a need to upgrade them. This is why we have chosen investment in our infrastructural development. Our goal is to upgrade cities and towns in Oyo state to places where we can now be proud of, we do not want to leave any community behind.”
“So, if we had all the resources at our disposal, we’ll do more at a faster rate, as we all know, our wants and needs are infinite but the resources to meet them are limited. So, we often have to prioritize the projects that would bring the best value to the people of Oyo state. Some even queried why we’re constructing the road linking Ogbomoso to Iseyin, well, it is because we know the economic value of the project.
“So, this is for me indeed, the true definition of good governance, good governance is the ability to use limited resources to meet the growing needs of the population by prioritising projects that maximize value, and this is exactly what we are doing in Oyo state.”
“So, this is the value that the project is bringing, first thing, you can now complete a trip to the airport from this Agodi-Gate in less than 15 minute. Remember that just about nine months ago, we completed the dualization of 3.2km airport road which we then renamed Dr Omololu Olunloyo airport road.”
“So you can now easily link the airport Road from Agodi through Adegbayi smoothly, thereby, saving time and cost. As I stated earlier, this interconnectivity is crucial sustainable development. Also, you would notice that the usual traffic gridlock at Iwo road has reduced drastically if not completely eliminated because those coming from Osun state no longer have the need to pass through Iwo road.”
Speaking shortly before going to commission the road project, Governor Ademola Adeleke commended Makinde for his vision for the expansion of Oyo state economy through investment in infrastructural development noting that his state is already taking a cue from this vision.
He highlighted the ongoing infrastructural development in Osun state and the rehabilitation of other bad roads in order to give his people dividends of democracy.
Earlier, the commissioner for Works in Oyo state, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, in his welcome address lauded Governor Makinde for his commitment to the expansion of Oyo state economy through aggressive investment in infrastructural development.
He noted however, that Governor Makinde has been able to complete an unprecedented record of over 184km of road projects across all the geopolitical zones in the state.
