Police Anti-Kidnaping Squad and other tactical teams in Ondo State Command have successfully rescued 8 among the 25 persons kidnaped by gunmen in Elegbeka area along Owo/Ifon road in the state.
The victims were said to be members of CAC, One Igan parish in Akure, the state capital who were travelling to Ifon in Ose Local Government Area for the social function on Friday.
They were said to have been kidnapped by some gunmen and the Coaster Bus in which they were travelling was abandoned on the road side at Elegbeka area of the axis.
When some members of their church sighted the empty bus, it dawned on them that the occupants, most of who were members of the choir group of the church.
They therefore reported to the police which swung into action immediately.
Fortunately, eight among the kidnapped victims have been rescued by the Police as at the time of filling this report.
According to the state Command’s spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Superintendent of Police (SP), “Yesterday afternoon(Friday), the police was informed that a church Bus with the inscription CAC was abandoned around Elegbeka area and there are suspicions that the passengers in the vehicle were kidnapped .
“The Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams have been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and arrest all involved in the crime.
“But 8 victims have been rescued by the Police and efforts still ongoing to rescue others.”
Despite efforts of all security agencies in the state to stem crimes across the state, particularly incidents of kidnapping, Owo/Ose axis has remained black spot where kidnappers from Edo State and the accomplice in Ondo State operate haphazardly.
They sometimes take their victims across the border river that separates the two state.
