Iroko Community Grammar School Sets For 60th Anniversary

IBADAN – THE Global President of Iroko Community Grammar School Old Students Association, (ICGSOSA), the former High Commissioner to Singapore, Ambassador Akinremi Alade Bolaji has disclosed that all arrangements have been completed for the celebration of the school 60th anniversary.
Ambassador Bolaji, who stated this at a Press conference held at the Oyo State NUJ Press center in Ibadan on Monday, declared that the old students association have resolved to take collective responsibility for restoring Iroko Community Grammar School to its old glory.
The Global President maintained that like many long-standing public institutions, the school has faced challenges over the years, which includes infrastructure, facilities, and overall learning conditions.
“Today, we speak not in complaint, but in renewed determination and optimism”.
He stressed that the 60th anniversary is therefore not merely a celebration of the past; it is a strategic moment of renewal.
“As the Old Students’ Association, we have resolved to take collective responsibility for restoring Iroko Community Grammar School to its old glory.This anniversary provides a rallying point for us to give back in a meaningful, sustainable, and transparent manner,” he said.
Ambassador Bolaji added, ” I warmly welcome you and sincerely appreciate your presence today. We are gathered to formally announce the forthcoming 60th Anniversary Celebration of Iroko Community Grammar School, an institution that has stood for six decades as a beacon of learning, discipline, and community pride”.
“Established sixty years ago through the collective vision and sacrifice of our forebears, Iroko Community Grammar School has produced generations of men and women who have excelled in public service, business, academia, the professions, and community leadership across Nigeria and beyond. This school is not just a place of learning; it is a symbol of hope, resilience, and shared heritage”.
Ambassador Bolaji stressed, “To this end, the Association is embarking on a number of legacy projects, including but not limited to rehabilitation of key classroom blocks and learning facilities support for science, ICT, and library development”
He listed others to include “improvement of the school environment and essential infrastructure. Initiatives that directly enhance teaching and learning outcomes, adding that “these projects are deliberately designed to outlive the anniversary celebrations and positively impact current and future students.
“In line with this vision, we are mobilising, all old students, both at home and in the diaspora. Parents, families, and friends of the school.
The host community and traditional institutions.Corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians.Education is a shared responsibility, and the future of this school concerns us all.”
Ambassador Bolaji noted that to mark this milestone, a one-week programme of activities has been carefully planned and that these activities will be inclusive, community-focused, and development-oriented, featuring academic, social, cultural, and humanitarian engagements that reflect the values upon which the school was founded.
“We assure the public and all stakeholders that the Old Students’ Association is committed to accountability, transparency, and unity of purpose in the execution of both the anniversary events and the legacy projects.
“In closing, we invite the media, the general public, and all friends of education to join us in this noble cause. Let us use this 60th anniversary to reignite pride, restore excellence, and secure a stronger future for Iroko Community Grammar School. Together, we can honour the past, serve the present, and inspire the future”.
