LAUTECH Denies Closure Rumour Over Alleged Bandit Attack Fear

IBADAN — THE management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that the institution had been shut down over fears of a possible bandit attack.
The university described the report as false and misleading, assuring students, parents and guardians that academic activities were ongoing without disruption.
In a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olalekan Fadeyi, on behalf of the Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun, the management stated that there was no reason to close the university as security within and around the campus remained under control.
The statement followed recent attacks by suspected gunmen on some schools in communities within Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where some pupils and teachers were reportedly kidnapped last Friday.
Reacting to the development, the university management said: “This is to strongly debunk the rumour making the rounds that the Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has closed down the University for fear of invasion of bandits.”
The statement added that the institution remained in session and students were currently writing their examinations.
“This is to inform our students, their parents and guardians that there is no immediate reason for Management of LAUTECH to close down the University. As a matter of fact, our students are correctly writing their examinations and the exercise continues tomorrow,” the statement read.
Management, however, expressed regret over the anxiety and inconvenience the unfounded rumour may have caused members of the public.
