Makinde Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Alaafin, Olubadan

IBADAN – OYO State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday held a brief closed-door meeting with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, in Ibadan.
The meeting took place shortly after the governor signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill at an event held at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat.
The closed-door discussion, which was observed to be unscheduled, was held at the Coffee Room opposite the photo gallery stand of the Executive Council Chamber.
Details of the meeting were not disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
It was observed that after the signing of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, the governor and dignitaries in attendance were proceeding to the photo gallery for group photographs when Governor Makinde invited the Alaafin and the Olubadan into the Coffee Room.
The budget-signing ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, political office holders, lawmakers, members of the judiciary, and other key stakeholders.
The closed-door meeting lasted for about 15 minutes, during which other dignitaries waited at the photo gallery stand for the return of the governor and the monarchs.
Although no official statement was issued on the outcome of the meeting, observers believe it may be connected to the need for unity and harmony between the two first-class traditional rulers.
This development comes against the backdrop of recent social media reports alleging tension and rivalry between the two foremost monarchs over perceived issues of status and superiority.
