Military Secretary Army Urges 2 Division Officers To Embrace Career Planning

IBADAN — THE Military Secretary (Army), Maj.-Gen. Everest Okoro, has underscored the critical importance of early career planning for officers in the Nigerian Army, urging them to take deliberate steps toward shaping their professional future.
Maj.-Gen. Okoro made this known on Thursday during a sensitization lecture for officers within the 2 Division Area of Responsibility in Ibadan.
He advised officers to be proactive in mapping out their career paths as they rise through the ranks, stressing the need for excellence, discipline, and personal responsibility in achieving career goals.
According to him, “Officers must take ownership of their destinies by planning ahead, excelling in their assigned duties, and positioning themselves for opportunities within the system.”
The Military Secretary provided detailed insights into the roles, history, and organizational structure of the Army Headquarters Department of the Military Secretary.
He also spoke extensively on career planning and management, periodic career reviews, and discharge procedures.
He noted that the initiative was designed to equip officers with the knowledge required to make informed career decisions and navigate the complexities of military service effectively.
In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, described the Division as a historic formation committed to operational excellence and leadership development.
He emphasized that while battlefield valor remains essential, it must be complemented by careful and strategic career management.
“This sensitization lecture is not merely a routine administrative exercise, but a strategic intervention aimed at shaping the future leadership of the Nigerian Army,” Nnebeife said.
The GOC expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his continued support and visionary leadership, which he said has strengthened career management processes within the Army.
He also commended the Military Secretary and his team for promoting transparency, meritocracy, and global best practices in the career progression of officers.
Nnebeife urged participants to maximize the opportunity provided by the lecture and apply the knowledge gained to enhance their professional development.
The event featured an interactive session, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs.
