Mini Gas Tanker Overturns On Eko Bridge In Lagos

LAGOS —- THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, has responded to a lone accident involving a loaded DAF mini gas tanker on Eko Bridge inward Alaka, Lagos State.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at approximately 06:17 hours on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, when the front tyre of the 10-tonne gas tanker burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The tanker subsequently overturned, resulting in significant gas leakage.
The incident involved two persons, the driver and the motor boy, both of whom escaped unhurt. No casualties were recorded.
The accident also caused damage to two streetlights along the bridge. The vehicle, with a gross capacity of 10 tonnes, was reportedly carrying a gas load of 10,090kg at the time of the incident.
Upon receiving the distress alert, NEMA Lagos Operations Office immediately coordinated response efforts with relevant emergency stakeholders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police Force, Iponri Division.
Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene, while caution tape was deployed around the affected area to secure the environment and prevent any secondary incidents such as fire outbreak or explosion.
Joint response teams remain on ground, with firefighters closely monitoring the gas leakage while recovery operations continue to upright the vehicle and clear the affected section of the bridge.
LASTMA personnel are also managing traffic flow to reduce disruption along the busy Eko Bridge corridor.
The situation remains under control, with all responding agencies working collaboratively to ensure public safety, contain the leakage, and restore normal vehicular movement as quickly as possible.
