Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Elected To OAFLAD Leadership

ABUJA – Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has been elected to the Steering Committee of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) during the organization’s 29th Ordinary General Assembly.
The Assembly was held in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of the 38th African Union Summit.
Mrs. Tinubu joins the eight-member committee as one of two representatives for West Africa.
Her tenure will span two years, during which she is expected to actively contribute to OAFLAD’s initiatives and advocacy efforts.
The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Bio, was elected President of OAFLAD, while the First Lady of Angola, Ana Lorenzo, was elected Vice President.
Other member nations elected to the committee include Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo.

OAFLAD consists of spouses of African heads of state and government from 24 countries across the continent. The organization elects a new Steering Committee every two years, including a President and Vice President.
In a statement issued by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady congratulated Mrs. Bio and pledged to continue working to ensure that women and girls in Africa have access to quality education.
The outgoing President of OAFLAD, First Lady of Namibia, Monica Geingos, and the Secretary-General, Nardos Berhanu, also congratulated Mrs. Tinubu and other elected members.
President Bola Tinubu attended the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government. As Chairman of ECOWAS, his presence highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
