Overspeeding, Wrongful Overtaking Cause Anthony Joshua Road Crash — FRSC

IBADAN – THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has attributed the road crash involving former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking, describing the violations as major contributors to fatal accidents on Nigerian highways.
In a statement issued on Monday, the FRSC said the crash occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Sinoma area of Sagamu, Ogun State.
According to the Corps, the accident involved a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with an unknown registration number.
“A total of five adult males were involved in the crash,” the FRSC disclosed.
The Corps confirmed that two persons lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Joshua was rescued alive and reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Lexus Jeep, suspected to have been travelling above the legally prescribed speed limit, lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and collided with the stationary truck, which was properly parked by the roadside.
“The primary causes of the crash—excessive speed and wrongful overtaking—constitute serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways,” the statement added.
The FRSC reiterated its call on motorists to obey traffic regulations, warning that reckless driving continues to endanger lives and property across the country.
