•••Recovers Cars, Cash, Diverted Goods Worth Millions of Naira

Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday paraded suspected killers of Mrs Elizabeth Olaniyan Gbenle, aged 69, a retired Permanent Secretary with the Oyo State Government, who was brutally murdered by unknown assailants at her residence in Ibadan, the state capital.

Among other suspects paraded at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan were two suspected ritualists which were paraded with exhumed human head, while other suspects were paraded for various crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnap for ransom, money ritual, and others.

Items recovered from the suspects according to the state commissioner of Police CP Adebola Hamzat who briefed journalists at the command headquarters include 18 exotic cars, one DAF Trailer with goods worth millions of naira, guns, cash, one power generator, and phones.

Recall that the heinous crime took place at the deceased’s home, along All Saints College Road, Idi Ishin, off NIHORT Area, Ibadan in November, 2023 after source revealed that the 69-year-old woman was suffocated after her attackers bound her hands and legs.

CP Adebola Hamzat in his address gave the names of the suspects as Bello Olalekan, aged 30 year, Bisiriyu Olalekan, aged 32, Simeon Ojei, aged 38, and Femi Omisore, aged 43.

While speaking on how the suspects were arrested, CP Adebola Hamzat said, “On 10th November, 2023 at about 0030hrs, five (5) suspected members of notorious criminal gang that had been terrorizing members of the public at different locations within Ibadan metropolis invaded the house of one late Mrs Olaitan Omotola Gbenle, at Agbede Agbofiati Community, Apata Area, Ibadan.”

“The suspects who were reportedly armed with sophisticated firearms and other dangerous weapons attacked the Sixty- Eight (68) year old woman at her residence equally dispossessing her of huge sums of money, mobile phones, big generating set, laptops, and many other valuable items, all of which were carted away in her Toyota Camry Car and a Toyota Corolla cars.”

“As if that was not enough, the suspects eventually murdered the deceased, leaving her in a pool of her own blood.”

“In furtherance of the above and upon the receipt of the incident’s petition, the Command was swayed to immediately identify, track and apprehend all the perpetrators of the heinous crime and as recover all the items carted away.”

“Sequel to this, a team of forensic experts and detectives attached to the Command Monitoring Unit immediately swung into action through detailed intelligence gathering and purposeful investigations, the suspected leader of the armed robbery syndicate, one Bello Olalekan and two of his syndicate members identified as Bisiriyu Olalekan and Simeon Ojei were arrested at their various hideouts in connection with the crime.”

“Upon interrogations, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime while the leader of the suspected criminal gang explained that the victim was murdered because he realized the deceased saw him during the armed robbery operation.”

“In the same vein, further investigations led to the arrest of a criminal receiver, Femi Omisore. The two (2) vehicles and a Fireman Generating Set, hitherto carted away from the deceased were later recovered as well. Investigation is still ongoing.  Further developments will be communicated later.” CP Adebola said.

While speaking with journalists, one of the suspect, Bello Olalekan said, ” I was arrested because my friends and I robbed one woman in my area and the woman later died eventually.”

“Myself and my friends were involved in a robbery and it led to the death of the woman, before the incident my friends actually contacted me to give them one person they can rob to raise money and I said I know one woman in my area and when we got their we tie her hands and legs to the chair and along the line the woman died, five of us actually went for that operation but it was three of us that tied the woman up, I was given N200,000 after we sold the two cars we stole from the woman’s compound, we actually sold the car at the rate of N2.3m to Omisore in Lagos, this is my first time of doing this, I beg.” Olalekan said.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include,one Toyota Camry Car, One Toyota Corolla Car, and one fireman Generator.

Similarly, the state commissioner of police also confirmed arrest of two suspected ritualists that were paraded with human head.

CP Adebola Hamzat while parading the suspected ritualists said, “On 10/1/2024 upon discreet intelligence gathering carried out by a team of Policemen attached to the Saki Division. The criminal activities of a suspected group of hoodlums who specialize using Human Head and other vital Organs for Ritual Purposes in Saki town, Oyo State was uncovered.”

“Sequel to this discovery, the team of Policemen cracked down on the suspected Ritualists at their hideout in Saki town and in the process, two members of the criminal gang who later identified themselves as Salami Abdulahi aged 35, and Adebisi Aliu, aged 30were arrested in their hideout.”

“One Human Head cut off from a freshly exhumed Corpse and a local pot containing some concoctions were recovered from the possession of the suspected Ritualists.”

“Upon interrogations, the suspects confessed to the crime and explained that the harvested Human Skull was from a corpse at burial ground and was to be used for Money Rituals.”

“Investigation continues and further developments will be communicated, please.” CP Adebola said.

In his words while speaking with journalists, Adebisi Aliu confessed to have assisted Salami Abdulahi to get the human head from a nearby cemetery in Saki.

Adebisi Aliu had earlier told journalists that he actually engaged Salami Abdulahi to get him skull of the dead with the purpose of using it for money rituals.

Adebisi said, ” the head was found under my car inside my compound by my landlord who alerted people, I was the one who engaged Salami Abdulahi to get me dried human head, I want to use it for money rituals, I promised to give him the sum of N40,000, but unfortunately we were arrested, I regret my actions.” Adebisi said.

Exhibit recovered from them is one human head.
