Oyo Police Probe Viral Video Of Man Claiming To Have Killed 32 People

IBADAN    —  THE Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video in which a man identified as Shawama allegedly claimed responsibility for killing 32 people.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command had no record of arresting any individual bearing the name Shawama, contrary to claims circulating online.

The command, however, said it had commenced a comprehensive probe into the allegations and the purported confessional statements contained in the video.

According to the police, the investigation will involve the use of advanced technological tools, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ascertain the authenticity of the claims and identify those involved.

“The Oyo State Police Command has obtained a video in which an individual identified as Shawama, in the company of others, claims to have killed 32 people.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that there is no record of such an individual having been arrested by our operatives at any point,” the statement read.

The police further appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could aid in tracking and apprehending the individual and his alleged accomplices.

“The Command appeals to members of the public with credible information that can assist in identifying and arresting the suspect to come forward,” the statement added.

The command assured residents that updates on the progress of the investigation would be communicated as findings emerge.
