Barely 48 hours that the nationwide strike by organized Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) hit the country, a new directive has reached its leaders across the states of the federation that the nationwide strike should be relaxed for a week.
Naijanewshub online Newspaper monitored level of compliance in some parts of the Ibadan Metropolis on Tuesday, including the state government secretariat, Agodi Axis of Ibadan reports that the labour leaders in the state confirmed the new directive to newsmen.
The chairman, Trade Union Congress, Oyo State Council, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro while speaking with journalists said “it is imperative for every worker to comply with the new directive, as this would enable the continued negotiation meeting between the federal government and the labour reach an agreeable point.”
“The labour has read out its intention including good living status, and controlled inflation on goods and services to the federal government, and failure to reach a compromise within the space of five days, may re-activate the suspended strike next week, calling the workers across the state to resume work with immediate effect at their respective duty posts.”
Reacting on behalf of the chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Kayode Martins, the immediate past secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Ibrahim Mohammed commended the workers for due cooperation during the just relaxed industrial actions, called the federal government to prioritize implementation policies that will enhance good standard of living for both the workers and the citizens at large.
As at the time of filing this report, the main gates to Oyo state secretariat have been flung open, while sketchy activities in some offices have resumed.
Recall, the suspension of the strike is as a result of a five hour meeting between the Labours and federal government last evening, which resumed this morning, and that the federal government is ready to pay above N60,000 as its national minimum wage.
