PDP Crisis Deepens As Gov Mohammed Considers Joining ADC

BAUCHI — THE Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has indicated a possible defection to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, following the lingering internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP).
The Governor made this known on Tuesday shortly after a closed-door meeting with a delegation of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, held at the Presidential Lodge in Bauchi.
Governor Bala Mohammed stated that despite exhausting all avenues for reconciliation within the PDP at both national and state levels, no meaningful progress has been achieved.
He revealed that two committees had been constituted, one at the national level in Abuja and another in Bauchi to assess the political direction of his camp, including exploring options across different political parties.
“I am here with a delegation from the ADC headquarters where my mentor, my boss, Senator David Mark is leading. He has asked them to come to me, to reconnect me with the umbilical cord of the opposition, the one that have always been my stronghold. I said to him as a leader of the PDP, I discovered also relatedly that there is still some bitterness while our party is headless”.
” Of course, I have pursued all avenues for reconciliation, but it has not worked and our people are putting me under extreme pressure. We have set up two committees, one in Abuja at the national level because of my position as a leader of the party on the other side and one here to look at where to go. We left all our options on the ground, including the ADC itself”.
“But sadly, we have discovered that we cannot be where we are wanted. We have to find a place within the opposition. That is where our faith and positive destiny will take us to. The ADC happens to be a very more acceptable platform for the people that are talking to me so far”.
“That is because I am managing two constituencies, both here and at the Federal level. We will try , if we agree on something, all will be well. If we agree well, we will come together with all the parties along with the interests in the PDP at the national and subnational level. That is why our discussion has been long. But really, we have told them we are amenable to joining them in certain sets of conditions”.
‘So far l, negotiations are concluded as well as other parties that we are looking for. But as of now, I think that our destination have not been concluded in a manner that we can take a stakeholder collaboration so that we do not make mistakes” he said.
According to him, remaining in a political environment where they are not wanted is no longer tenable, stressing the need to align with a viable opposition platform.
The Governor described the ADC as a “preferred destination,” noting however that consultations and negotiations are still ongoing to ensure a well-informed decision.
Earlier, leader of the ADC delegation, Babachir David Lawal, said their visit was at the instance of the party’s National Chairman, aimed at inviting Governor Bala Mohammed to join the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described the Governor as a fearless political figure whose entry into the party would strengthen its chances in future elections.
Engr. Babachir also emphasized the need for opposition’s unity, warning that failure to consolidate efforts could have serious consequences for Nigeria’s future.
The meeting comes just days after Governor Bala Mohammed convened a stakeholders’ meeting of the PDP in Bauchi, aimed at resolving internal disputes and fostering unity within the party.
Political observers say the latest development could significantly reshape the political landscape in Bauchi State and beyond, as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 elections.
