Peter Obi Officially Defects To ADC, Vows To Resist Election Rigging

ENUGU –  THE Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday had formally defected to African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi who announced his defection at Nike Lake Resort in Enugu described the move as part of a broader coalition to “rescue Nigeria” from poor leadership, economic decline, and democratic erosion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Former Anambra state Governor said the gathering of his defection marked “an important day” as Nigeria prepares for what he described as a decisive journey toward national renewal in 2026.

He said “As we end the year 2025, we do so with hope, we hope that in 2026 we will begin a genuine journey to rescue our country and set it on the path of proper, inclusive, and unified socio-economic development,”

Peter Obi who lamented one individuals who once benefited from democracy of turning against it through intimidation and electoral malpractice, warned that such actions would no longer be tolerated.

“We have watched those who benefited from our democracy become accessories to its destruction through coercion, intimidation, and gangsterism against the opposition. We cannot allow this to continue. We will resist it,” he declared.

Warning Against 2027 Election Rigging, Obi issued a strong warning against any attempt to manipulate the 2027 general elections, insisting that resistance would be lawful but firm.

He said “Anyone planning to rig elections in Nigeria come 2027 will be resisted by every lawful and legitimate means”.

He stressed the need to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the elections, particularly through proper candidate screening and verification.
