Makinde Promises To Rejuvenate Market System In Oyo

IBADAN – The Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has promised to rejuvenate the market system across the state.
This development was made known on Wednesday by the acting governor of the State, Barr. Bayo Lawal, during the commissioning of the Kajola Ultra Modern Market in Ogbomoso South Local Government.
Acting governor Lawal emphasised that the new market facility is a significant step towards improving trade and commerce in the state.
He noted that the market is designed to provide a conducive environment for traders and consumers alike, enhancing the overall economic activities in the area.
“The Kajola Ultra Modern Market is not just a building; it represents our vision to create a thriving market ecosystem that supports local businesses and stimulates economic growth,” Lawal stated.
He highlighted the importance of modernizing existing markets and establishing new ones to meet the needs of the growing population.
The acting governor also mentioned plans to implement various initiatives aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the market system.
These initiatives include enhanced security measures to protect both vendors and customers.
“What we came here to do this was the commissioning of the Kajola Ultra Modern Market in Ogbomoso South Local Government.”
“The takehome from government was that in Omitutun 1.0, we did something like this in Moniya if you recal and then Akesan market when it got burnt. We rebuilt it which cost us several millions of naira.”
“So, under Omitutun 2.0, this is the first commissioning of an ultra modern market of its kind. And you know that our environment is replete with archaic markets in several towns, not only in Oyo State, but Nigeria. So, we are trying to rejuvenate the market system in Oyo State.”
“As we move on, we will in urban centres and rural communities, try and build modern market, where you have all facilities that you can get elsewhere in advanced countries of the world.”
”For instance, this one is fitted with toilet facilities, abbatior, administrative block, and market stalls, lock up stalls and open stalls, meaning that if you keep your wares in the market instead of carrying your wares back and front from house to the market, you can lock up your wares, come in the morning, open your shops and begin your trading.”
“So, it’s a significant achievement for Ogbomoso South Local Government.”
In his remark, the Chairman of the Ogbomoso South Local Government, Timothy Oyedokun, assured that the shops and stalls would be duly allocated without favoritism, promising to always uphold the people’s welfare.
