Police Rescue Four Abducted Passengers Along Igbeti–Kishi Road

IBADAN   —   THE Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued four passengers abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in the early hours of Thursday, 5th March 2026.

The command announced in a press statement released on Friday, 6th March. According to the statement signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the victims were intercepted by armed hoodlums who emerged from nearby bushes and blocked a commercial bus travelling from Igbeti to Kishi. Four passengers were forcefully taken into the surrounding bush before the criminals fled.

“Immediately we received the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, directed the Divisional Police Officers of Igbeti and Kishi, alongside relevant tactical teams, to mobilize all necessary operational resources to ensure the safe rescue of the victims,” the statement read.

Acting on this directive, a combined security team comprising police operatives, members of the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and other local security stakeholders conducted intensive bush combing operations. The sustained pressure forced the criminals to abandon the victims and escape.

“Thanks to the professionalism and swift action of the combined security team, the four abducted passengers were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families,” DSP Olayinka added.

The police command commended the bravery and synergy of the security agencies, emphasizing that collaboration remains crucial for the protection of lives and property in Oyo State.

The statement also acknowledged the support of the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde.

“We appreciate the prompt response and resources mobilized by the state government to support security operations across Oyo State,” the PPRO said.

Additionally, the strategic leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC, was praised for guiding the nationwide fight against crime and criminality.
While the victims have been freed, the command confirmed that intelligence-driven operations and bush combing are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

The Oyo State Police Command has also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
