Rivers SSG, Benibo Anabraba, Quits PDP

PORT HARCOURT — THE Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, has formally withdrawn his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing the decision to personal reasons.
His resignation was communicated in a letter dated January 5, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
In the letter, Anabraba expressed appreciation for the political exposure and opportunities he enjoyed while in the party and extended his best wishes to the PDP going forward.
Recall that Dr. Anabraba was appointed Secretary to the State Government in October 2025, at the height of prolonged political instability in Rivers State.
His exit from the PDP comes amid an ongoing political realignment in the state, underscored by Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP in Rivers State remains deeply factionalised, with sustained internal disputes and a spate of high-profile resignations further intensifying the party’s internal crisis.
He said, “Please be informed that I have resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The decision to leave the party is personal.

“I appreciate the political leverage gained from the party during the period of my membership, and wish the party well in the future.
“Please accept the regards of my highest esteem.”
