Road Crash Claims 8 Lives In Niger

MINNA -About 8 people, all male of different ages have lost their lives in a ghastly road accident that occurred along the Kutigi-Batati road in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger state.
The accident which occurred Monday night, according to eye witness account from the area involved a Trailer coming from the opposite direction and a Toyota Corolla with eight occupants, including the driver.
All the 8 occupants of the car said to have died on the spot, according to the source are farmers who migrated from zone B to safer haven due to the activities of armed bandits to Dasu village in Lavun local government area of the state to continue their farming activities.
One of the eye witnesses, the Assistant Commander, Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kutigi branch, Mohammed Sanusi said the ugly incident occurred when the Toyota Corolla, trying to overtake another vehicle ended up being trapped between the two vehicles from both directions.
One of the vehicles was coming from Lagos and heading to Abuja, he said, adding that, “I was shocked when I saw the way bodies of the victims looked in the crushed vehicle, tears run down my eyes uncontrollably, may God Almighty forgive them their shortcomings.”
Sanusi also explained how he mobilized his men to the scene of the accident and through the combined efforts of sympathizers alerted the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) personnel, and the Red Cross Society to retrieve bodies of the victims and were all subsequently buried on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the RTC FIR from RS7.28 Kutigi Unit Command, signed by RC, CC Ezeka confirmed the crash.
“On the 13/01/2025, road crash recorded at Panti, along the Bida -Kutigi road. Nature, type of crash:multiple, fatal. 7 casualties. Number of vehicles involved, 2. Drivers name, Halilu. Destination, Batati to Kutigi”, RC CC Ezeka said.
