Makinde Made Us Billionaires, We’ve No Reason To Impeach Him — Oba Tajudeen Ajibola

IBADAN — A senior member of the Olubadan-in-Council and Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ajibola, has dismissed rumours of an alleged plot against Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, stating that members of the traditional council have no reason to support any move to impeach the governor.
Oba Ajibola spoke on Friday during a press conference held at his Sanyo Palace in Ibadan, where he reacted to growing speculations of political tension involving the Olubadan-in-Council and the state government.
The Balogun described the impeachment claims as unfounded, insisting that the relationship between the governor and traditional rulers in Ibadanland remains cordial.
According to him, policies and actions taken by the Makinde administration have significantly improved the welfare and financial standing of many traditional chiefs in the state.
“Since Governor Seyi Makinde assumed office, he has transformed the lives of many of us. In the past, some chiefs struggled financially that has always been part of the system. But from the time of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, things began to change, and Governor Makinde has even doubled those efforts,” he said.
Oba Ajibola added that the current administration’s support has elevated several members of the Olubadan-in-Council economically, leaving no basis for hostility toward the governor.
“He has made many of us billionaires. That alone is enough to appreciate him. So why would we want to impeach someone like that?” he asked.
The traditional leader also expressed confidence that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, would not support any such move, noting that the monarch remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the state.
“I don’t think Oba Ladoja is thinking along the line of impeachment. That is why we are always advised as traditional rulers to stay away from politics,” he added.
Oba Ajibola reiterated the importance of neutrality among traditional rulers, warning that involvement in partisan politics could undermine the integrity of the institution.
He urged the public to disregard the impeachment rumours, describing them as baseless narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension in Ibadanland and the state at large.
