NAOS Demands Immediate Suspension Of NMDPRA CEO, Farouk Ahmed Over Alleged Miscount

IBADAN – THE National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS) demands the immediate suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, following serious allegations of regulatory misconduct, abuse of office, and questionable personal expenditures. These allegations, which have attracted national attention, relate to regulatory misconduct, abuse of office, and questionable personal expenditures.

(National PRO) Insists that no public officer is above scrutiny, and the credibility of any regulatory institution must be protected. The integrity of the NMDPRA is critical to ensuring fair, transparent, and effective management of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
NAOS note with alarm that any acts capable of undermining local production, investment, or economic stability in the oil and gas sector; a key contributor to the nation’s GDP, amount to economic sabotage, which NAOS will not tolerate.
While allegations are not convictions, it is imperative that immediate administrative action be taken to preserve the credibility of institutions and ongoing investigations. Allowing a public officer to remain in office amid such serious claims risks public confidence and national interest.
Accordingly, NAOS calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to immediately suspend Engr. Farouk Ahmed from office to facilitate a transparent, independent, and interference-free investigation.
We also urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to promptly investigate all allegations, including licensing practices, asset declarations, and compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
Section 15(5) of the 1999 Constitution mandates the abolition of corruption and abuse of power. NAOS expects this constitutional obligation to be enforced fully, without fear or favour, in order to uphold the rule of law and public trust.
