Ogun @ 50: Gov. Dapo Abiodun Declares Tuesday Public Holiday For 50th Anniversary Celebration

ABEOKUTA – THE Ogun State Government has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday to mark the 50th anniversary of the state’s creation.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the holiday in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
The move, according to the statement, is to enable residents to actively participate in activities lined up for the Golden Jubilee celebration.
The government described the anniversary as a historic milestone, marking five decades of Ogun State’s political existence, steady growth, and meaningful contributions to national development.
The statement urged citizens to celebrate the occasion in an atmosphere of unity, peace, and collective pride, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to building on past achievements and accelerating development across the state.
Governor Abiodun also encouraged residents to take full advantage of the public holiday to participate in the commemorative events organized to reflect on the state’s journey, celebrate its present accomplishments, and project a bold and prosperous future.
Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976, and the Golden Jubilee celebration features a series of activities designed to highlight its historical legacy and developmental strides over the past five decades.
