MAKURDI – THE Benue State Command of the Nigeria Police, said it has arrested two persons in connection with the alleged murder of a Youth Corper, Benjamin Une, while one other person is still at large.
Une, a Youth Corper, who is said to be serving in Gombe State, and billed to Pass Out, in May, 2026, was beaten to death in Anibros community near the Buruku Local Government Area (LGA) secretariat, between 11pm and 12am on Wednesday/Thursday night.
INDEPENDENT gathered that the deceased was accosted by some persons who claimed to be members of the vigilante group in the area, while riding a motor bike, alleging that the bike was not Une’s, but was stolen.
We further learned that one thing led to the other and the vigilante beat the corper to the pulp, but suspecting that the victim was near death, they quickly rushed him to the hospital, where he later died.
Reacting, the Chairman, Buruku LGA, Raymond Aondoakura, condemned the incident, which has also led to the suspension of all activities of vigilante groups in the area.
But the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edet Udeme, confirmed that while two persons have been arrested in connection to the alleged murder of the victim, she said another of the suspects is currently at large.
She explained that the deceased was allegedly accused by a group of hoodlums of stealing a motorcycle and was subsequently mobbed to death without any form of investigation.
While she stated that preliminary investigation reveal that the allegation leveled against the victim for stealing a bike is false, she explained that documents relating to the motorcycle indicated that the deceased was the rightful owner.
The PPRO, said that while two suspects: Terkimbi Abumswende and Joshua Adagim, have been arrested in connection with the incident, the another suspect remains at large, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspect that was on the run.
