ABUJA  —   THE leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Southwest region has condemned the activities of the National Secretary of the party, Raufu Aregbesola, in the ADC in the region.

ADC National Director of Communication and Programmes in the area, Dr Babatunde Oke, in a statement on Thursday, said Aregbesola “has been the stumbling block in the progress of the ADC in the Southwest.”

He disclosed that ADC leadership in the region had met after the opposition party’s national convention which was held in Abuja, to review the process leading to the gathering.

The statement explained that the party’s leadership in the area led by Honourable Rahman Owokoniran upon the review frowned at what the ADC described as “the ridiculous way and manner the national secretary of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola comported himself thereafter.”

Describing such as “highly unfortunate,” the statement warned that the national secretary “cannot claim you are working for ADC and at the same time destroying and sabotaging the progress.”

It further disclosed that it has alerted the national headquarters of the development, adding, We have . . . lodged complains severally against his actions and the negative impacts on the progress of the party in the Southwest, ranging from membership registrations, party’s expansion, the worst of all is the ridiculous outings or turnup from Southwest in the last National Convention, to say the least.

“We have asked this question often that Ogbeni RAUFU Aregbesola should come out plain by telling Nigerians who he is working for, The ADC or otherwise.

“The Significance of African Democratic Congress ADC Southwest cannot be taken for granted, neither can it be overemphasized.

“The Zonal Leadership has made several calls to the National Leadership of African Democratic Congress ADC to prevail on Ogbeni RAUFU Aregbesola from Fanning the ember of discord in the Zone.

“He has a lot on his table as National Secretary and that should get his attention.

“We have a lot in front of us as stakeholders, we should be fully aware of those we are contending with. In the ruling party, we really don’t need a national secretary whose job is to distract us and derail our progress.

“The national headquarter led by our Eminent National Chairman, Distinguished Senator David Mark, should be fully aware that he has a lot at stake in the Southwest and he should not allow himself to be bullied by Agents of distraction. We know what their agenda is and such is inimical to the success of ADC in The zone.

“The Success of African Democratic Congress ADC is Sacrosanct. That should be the responsibility of everyone.

We as Leaders in The Region are committed to Anything that can give us Victory. We are ready to work with anyone who shares this patriotic value with us.

We don’t need distractions. The party doesn’t need such at this critical stage we found ourselves. If they are not working for All Progressives Congress (APC) within African Democratic Congress (ADC), then they should desist from creating frictions in the zone. If truly they’re for the success of our Great Party, then they put an immediate end to this Anti Party Activities and Tendencies.

“The representations at the just concluded National Convention of our Great Party from the Southwest is not just ridiculous but Disgraceful, A Region where the Head of Administration of the party comes from. This should call for sober reflection among the stakeholders.

Not only that, his actions resulted in duplicated state congresses in the region, an avoidable embarrassment. The role our national secretary played, countdown to our state congresses should be audited.

“He unilaterally orchestrated duplicated Zonal Leadership, State Leadership across the Southwest as well as unauthorized issuance of appointment letters to his cronies without the approval of the National Executive Council of The Party. To Say The Least.

The Owokoniran led Southwest leadership of African Democratic Congress demands immediate full stop to this dangerous trend emanating from Aregbesola’s end. The leadership of African Democratic Congress, Southwest, is committed to the success of the party and we will stop at nothing to ensure it’s achieved.”
