UPDATED VERSION: Alli Declares For 2027 Oyo Governorship, Promises Inclusive, People-Driven Leadership

IBADAN — SHARAFADEEN Abiodun Alli, the senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, pledging to deliver a people-driven administration focused on inclusive development, security, and economic growth.
The declaration, held on Friday at Yemetu Police Barracks in Ibadan, attracted a large gathering of political leaders, party faithful, traditional stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.
Addressing the crowd, Alli described his decision as the outcome of extensive consultations with party leaders, traditional rulers, and residents across the state’s geopolitical zones.
He characterized the moment as both “a turning point” and “a declaration of purpose,” emphasizing that his ambition is rooted in service rather than personal gain.
“This is not about ambition alone. It is about responsibility, service, and the future and prosperity of the good people of Oyo State,” he said.
Alli highlighted his extensive experience in public service, including his tenure as the first democratically elected chairman of Ibadan North Local Government in 1991, as well as his roles as Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff in previous administrations.
According to him, these positions have shaped his governance philosophy, which prioritizes accountability, impact, and grassroots development.
He described Oyo State as rich in history, culture, and human capital but in need of renewed leadership to unlock its full potential. He outlined key priority areas for his administration, including education, security, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
On education, Alli expressed concern over declining standards and pledged comprehensive reforms to promote innovation and sustainable development.
He also stressed the importance of security, noting that meaningful development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
The senator further promised to expand healthcare access, improve infrastructure to better connect rural and urban communities, and stimulate economic growth by supporting traders, artisans, and small business owners.
“We will refocus development at the grassroots and ensure that local governments function effectively with real autonomy,” he said.
Alli also pledged to create opportunities for young people through entrepreneurship and digital transformation initiatives, while revitalizing agriculture through modern farming techniques and improved market access.
On governance, he assured civil servants and pensioners of improved welfare, prompt payment of salaries and entitlements, and reforms based on transparency, accountability, and merit.
He also emphasized gender inclusion, promising that women would play a central role in his administration, alongside active engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders.
Paying tribute to past leaders of the state, Alli said his administration would build on existing legacies rather than dismantle them.
He urged residents to view his ambition as a collective project requiring unity and shared responsibility.
“I offer myself to you not as a master, but as a servant, tested, prepared, and ready to serve,” he said.
The event was attended by several prominent political figures, including former Deputy Governor Iyiola Oladokun, Remi Oseni, Yinus Akintunde, and Ayoade Adeseun, among others.
