Frank Kessie has finally joined FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona’s transfer window is in full swing. After making several free signings for the 21/22 season, the club will do the same for the 22/23 campaign, as they have done with Frank Kessie.
The central midfielder joins the club to strengthen their midfield. He arrives after his contract with Milan expired.
In a technical and quality midfield, Kessie’s arrival brings power in the middle of the park for Xavi’s team, something which Barca have been missing recently.
FC Barcelona beat several other big clubs to the player’s signature. Juventus, Inter, Atletico, Real Madrid and Liverpool FC were all interested in signing the player.
Kesise has signed a deal with ‘los cules’ until 2026 and will receive 6.5 million euros in each of the four seasons that he will spend at the club.
The arrival of Kessie will give more depth to the Barca midfield, which will no longer depend exclusively on Sergio Busquets to defend transitions.
Muscular and powerful, the Ivorian is capable of playing as a ‘5’, but is also capable of occupying the inside positions to reach the opponent’s box in the second line.
Kessie came to Milan as one of the players in the new era of the ‘Rossoneri’. Joining from Atalanta, where he showed glimpses, he drew the attention of big clubs during his spell at the San Siro.
The Ivorian has gone from being a defensive midfielder, when he was at Bergamo, to a ‘box to box’ player capable of getting into the box with a good shot. But, he also possesses an exquisite touch with the ball that combines with Xavi’s play.
FC Barcelona have gained another lung with the presence of the player, however, it won’t be easy for him to settle in their team.
In addition to Busquets’s last years, there is the presence of the young players that have arrived in recent years, such as Pedri, Gavi or Nico, without forgetting Frenkie de Jong.
